A good female friend was telling me about the hazards of carrying a large shoulder bag whilst wearing a short skirt. She definitely wasn’t flirting with me – she was describing something unintentional and a bit embarrassing. On the other hand, I saw some young women in London going up some fairly steep steps outside the South Bank Centre wearing very short skirts and I couldn’t help noticing some fairly minimal underwear. I was convinced at the time, from their general giggling and looking around manner, that they’d dared each other to do that. Looking back, though, I wonder if they were characters in a piece of street theatre. I’ve seen a few slightly odd things going on there.
