Vote-Off Event #4 – OFFICIAL

Vote-Off #4 is about to begin. The pages are up and linked and (hopefully!) all working perfectly. I will start the event officially a 9pm and will then announce it on social media, in the blog here etc. Before that, if any of you find any issues or mistakes, PLEASE let me know!

Depending on how my nerves hold out after Vote 4 then I could be tempted in to Vote 5 (depending on the theme).

Of course if the first 2 volunteers are both women then I should be fairly safe.

I think the only way a mixed gender Vote-Off would be possible is with only couples taking part (ie so you vote for a couple).

I don’t understand this contest.. Al got no votes but lost his jacket. Gary got 2 votes but didnt lose any clothes..  huh?

Al got most votes after first round,  so his votes get reset to zero, mine and others votes are carried over to the next round.  There’s been 1 more vote for me since then

You’re comparing the Round 2 votes with the results of Round 1. Round 1’s results came from Round 1 votes. Gary didn’t have 2 votes in Round 1.

Voting has been pretty minimal so far, but I’m expecting it to pick up as the clothes come off.

What does everyone think of the photos page for each participant. They are a little basic but designed to be easy for me to update.

How can I get more voting going on it this Vote-Off?

A 2-cent suggestion although it doesn’t work for this Vote-Off.

Allow registered site members a few votes for each Vote-Off. It wouldn’t get you money directly but would probably encourage people just checking out the site from Twitter, etc., to register on the site and hopefully participate. This would eventually (hopefully) lead to a lot more interaction and more Supporters.

I know you need money to keep the site going, but trying to get money out someone new to the site to be able to vote is a turn off. The availability of sites for exposure has certainly increased over the years and its tough to get people to pay for what they can get free elsewhere. I don’t mean that derogatory to this site. I like it and that’s why I participate. 🙂

There are over 220 active members of the site (visited the site more than once and have visited in the past 7 days). I haven’t got room on my spreadsheet for that many!

I’m not really expecting money out of new visitors (although I’ve got to try obviously!) but if 10% of regulars bought 1 lot of votes it would fund the site for a few months. I find the percentage of new visitors who are interested in the Vote-Off seems to be very low. Female participants would turn that around completely.

Someone PMed me to suggest that I should charge an entrance fee to participants for the next one and make voting free (one vote per person per round). I’d feel bad charging volunteers AND it’s already difficult to get volunteers in the first place.

Maybe having participation in the Vote-Off only open to Supporters? I’d prefer that to directly charging for entry.

That might be a viable solution, except for the ladies. I’d give them free entry. I’m sure it is hard enough to get participants for that already.

Would you give members a set amount of votes? I think if there was a way to get away from paid votes without cheating, that it would be a good thing.

However I work this, it gets complicated. Using the free votes system (1 per person per day), wouldn’t the participants already get free votes anyway?

In the first Vote-Off, some voters bought large amounts of votes – raising far more money than participants paying for Supporter status would, especially as several of them already have long term Supporter status anyway.

Being free for women participants is a must, but then I’d had to charge for votes for the whole thing to work at all…

Yes, it is certainly a balancing act.

But, if you have 4-5 participants each round, them getting a few extra votes over others wouldn’t be a bad thing. 😉

I’m considering changing the rules so that there is only one “winner” in this competition. I know that will wind things up more quickly but it might liven up the competition in the meantime. The last few rounds rarely get more than 3-4 votes cast.

Vote-Off #1 raised more than £100 for the site (over 6 months hosting costs). Costs have gone up a little since then, but Vote-Off #4 looks like it’s going to top out at less than a third as much and won’t quite cover 2 months.

Unless we run a Vote-Off every 2 months, it’s not going to work.

Also, I simply don’t have enough free time to run this every couple of months. I’m putting a LOT more time than I usually can into this event, keeping momentum going on this site and social media promotion work. It’s impossible for me to do that every month.

The original plan was to end this Vote-Off when all bar one participant had reached their last photo. Given the very slow rate of voting in this one, what does everyone think of ending it after the first participant gets there?

We have a winner for Vote-Off #4. Drew was the only participant to make it to the end with clothing still one. Everyone else has been displayed to the world with a close up!

 

With the apparent level of interest right now, I’m hoping to start Vote-Off #5 soon.
