Curiously, the notification continued with …

<li class=”moz-quote-pre”>… the server was significantly faster?
- Or wouldn’t it make any difference?
But that seems to have gone missing from the actual post.

To answer the question … if this was a heavy traffic site, with lots of messages to read every day, a faster speed might be useful, though I suspect it’s the software that is slow (or the host is running too many sites on the same server) rather than the server itself.
That said, I typically have several sites (or multiple threads from the same site) open in different browser tabs, and switch between tabs whenever the current tab is waiting, so I don’t see the same delays as everybody else.

I don’t see much of an issue with site performance.
I tend to be here a lot thougout the day checking in for updates. I would love a chat function maybe even a video chat.
I think the thing that will keep people here longer is more regular content on the forum to read. If there isnt anything new people will show up then leave.

We had a chat function (live chat available on every page of the site) but after almost two years, I removed it because, after an initial flurry, it wasn’t being used. It was a casualty of one of the attempts to simplify and focus the community.

I’m already here when there’s nothing new to see. Faster to load what? Content is what’s needed as said above.

I’ve had a few people complain that page-load times are slow in some parts of the world. I’ve heard that in the US it often takes 3-5 seconds for each page to update and people find that annoying.

According to pingdom.com, the loading time for the current page, is:
- 3.2 seconds from London
- 8.04 seconds from San Francisco.
It makes some suggestions, though I suspect most of them are caused by the software and probably therefore not under your control:

I’m posting stuff about 6-8 times per day, sometimes more, and the forums have been very active recently. I’m seeing 20-30 posts per day which is the best we’ve had in ages. There’s also a lot of activity in the chat (I’m trying to keep up with that too).
Outside of that, I’m building a plan for the site’s transition to a new server. I’ve got pages and pages of settings and options recorded, plugin versions, etc. I’ve also stored over 50 pages from the current site to go up on the new incarnation. Patreon members will maintain access to the new site but everyone else will need to sign up again. That’s actually a good thing overall as it will cull the inactive members, of which there are hundreds. It’s a HUGE job, but the better I am prepared the smaller the downtime will be. I’m hoping to keep it down to 2-3 days right now, assuming everything works as expected.

A quick search for the site shows it being hosted in Czech Republic. There doesn’t appear to be a CDN for any of the static assets. A cdn could really help speed up the site with all the static content on here. Obviously you can’t put everything on a cdn cause that’s not how it works but css, java, fonts logos and things can all be stored on cdn making it far quicker for users across the world to access

CDNs weren’t a common thing back when I got the server. The current hosting company is small and doesn’t offer a CDN service. However, I do know how CDNs work.
It’s irrelevant anyway as I’m moving to new hosting (which does include a CDN), which is one of several reasons why the site will be faster.
