Someone PMed me a suggestion this morning. Could we have a mixed-gender Vote-Off but where women have to get 2 votes (or 3?) for every male vote.

This is an interesting idea and a cunning way to make things fairer. I did point out that I have no idea of the ratio required to even things up, but the suggester (who wishes to remain anonymous) pointed out that the only way to find out is to try it.

What does everyone thing? And what ratio should we try first (if we try it)?

When I posted this one yesterday, I thought it was going to cause uproar. Clearly not 🙁

Sounds a great idea, if you can get one or more women to take part.

Given that  men are very likely to only vote for the women then

            man 0

Woman 1 would still be a “win”

Possibly have a minimum vote difference, so the women need at least 3 clear votes to “win”.

            Eg man 1, woman 4.

The actual difference depends how much revenue you want to drive versus what us blokes will buy.

Anything that helps women feel involved without being pressured had to be good.

Pretty much, but there’s another complication. I believe some of the male participants will still vote for themselves, even more so with female competition.

I figure the simplest way to weight the voting would be to say each vote cast for a man counts for either 2 or 3 votes, where each vote cast for a woman is still worth 1 vote?

If I scale down voting for women, I’ll need fractions of votes.

A female contestant is not impossible but I’m still working on it.

If there are no objections, I’ll go with vote doubling for the men in a mixed-gender vote-off (ie you cast one vote, I’ll add two).

Sounds good. And if self voting is an issue, when not prohibit it?

Why would it be a problem? With female contestants, I would go so far as to say that self-voting becomes vital.

In the last Vote-Off self-voting raised well over half the money raised.
