Skype again

I’m still intrigued by this repeating pattern of behaviour on Skype. Several times a week a new person will contact me on Skype and say “Hi”. I reply with something similar and they block me!

Is that normal?

I don’t think so, but then again I thought Skype had died, so I may not be the best one to ask 🙂

Died? Between it and its sister product, aren’t they the most popular? The only competitor I know of is WhatsApp and that doesn’t really do the same job. And I couldn’t use it anyway as it’s phone number based.

I only used Skype for work, and I think it was the business bit that died a death, it couldn’t compete with teams. Is teams doable? I’ve never tried it for private use.

The business bit is called “Teams” now and it’s MASSIVE. Everyone I know who works in an office uses it and two of my kids have to use it in university.

The end of Skype is just a couple of months away, Skype ending in May 2025

Yeah, I got the e-mail too. I’ll just switch to Teams (which is essentially the same thing). I’m not going to use Zoom or WhatsApp again.

Having done some research and tried out a few things, I’ve moved to Teams. The NE Skype channel will remain active until the end, but I’ll change the Skype links here to Teams over the next few days.
