The challenge or next step for me is nudity, or even discussing or suggesting nudity in front of people I know. I’m socially awkward at the best of times, and am not sure how I would even bring this up.

I think you have to try to predict or subtly gauge which friends would be open to the concept and which would not. A lot of my social group is very conservative, so they’re out. But one good friend is a musician who’s a hippy at heart. We’re both straight men. I went on a hike with him once and hesitatingly told him about this site, as I was thinking of taking a photo on the trail. He was supportive but didn’t want to be involved. “You do you. I’ll sit over here looking the other way.”
Months later the same friend was comfortable enough to take a photo of me from behind. Then we visited a nude spa together. He doesn’t enjoy public nudity like I do, but he humours me.
Eventually we went to a nude beach together with two mutual friends who I thought might be open-minded enough (one’s into BDSM, the other is gay).

How to introduce other people to nudity is a great topic for conversation in itself, but we should have an article on that too. I will have to learn a lot more about it first. I’d love to see more people join in with this discussion!

I was wondering about an article on the different motivations to become a nudist/naturist but every time I’ve quoted any statistics, it’s angered the nudist community.

Calling it the nudist community will annoy the UK naturist community.
There isnt much stats out there its basically 1 in nine of uk consider themselves naturists, but define themselves as going skinny dipping, prefer nude beaches, etc. however it’s like 1 in 200 who enjoy organised nudity and one in 11,000 belong to the british naturist org.

I get that calling it a nudist community is contentious. Nudist/Naturist implies a way of life. I am struggling to decide if I can go topless by the pool (I’m on holiday in Corfu) as there are children around.
We’ve been here since Wednesday and my husband hasn’t taken his T-shirt off when sat by the pool. He will probably go lobster pink once / if he finally does!
I want to strip off, but I don’t want to offend.-

Does the pool have any rules that specifically allow or forbid it? Nudity seems to be beach-legal in Greece, but that doesn’t necessarily apply to public or private pools.
If not, have you seen other women using the pool area topless?

Yes, eventually I saw other going topless, but very discreetly. I did for a while, when the English family with a 9 year old had moved. I’m not sure how much I can shock my husband. This is not the way I used to behave!

That sounds like a little progress. Presumably your husband saw you do it. Did he react in any way, either to you or the other women being topless?
What about the English family. Did they see the other topless woman, and react in any way? The ideal would have been for them to have gone topless too, as that would have given a clearer signal it was OK for you too.

Actually, I convinced him it was a good idea to hike almost 4 miles to a secluded beach that was reported to be known as nudist.
We got there and it was lovely, mostly empty, but overlooked from a footpath. I didn’t quite manage to take the leap and go nude, with passers by watching.
I did swim topless while we had the beach to ourselves. Slightly unsure of the etiquette when trying to pick a time to come out of the water unobserved. -

That’s definitely progress. Slow but sure. Especially getting your husband to walk miles with you to go along with the idea, though I presume he still hasn’t done anything himself yet.

Everyone is different. Some are undoubtedly exhibitionist in nature, some are just comfortable naked and being seen naked, and there’s a few who get a kick from embarrassment, shame or humiliation.
Most of us are somewhere in-between.
Personally I’m comfortable being seen naked in photograph or video form, though I wouldn’t deny a thrill that anyone could be looking at me naked at any time, sorry there is something of an exhibition side to it, I’m also a realist and think that’s unlikely anyone would be bothering 🙂
I get a lot more nervous outside, where clothes people may see me. I don’t get invites to the right parties, but I could see myself being the only one naked, or the first one naked, it would probably be after a few drinks though 🙂
