Imagine a situation where you have been persuaded (or paid!) to appear on stage completely naked in front of an audience, how would you prefer it to happen?

@shynudedude83I don’t feel it would make a difference one way or another, whether you come out onto stage naked or you get on stage and then get undressed either way you’re going to be naked, it’s only saving you may be a few seconds at most!

I know many people find the act of undressing more embarrassing than just being naked, but I’d like to get some measure of what proportion think that.

It depends if I’m doing a dare, playing a game, or playing a character.
- For a dare, definitely streaking across the stage is much less embarrassing (and easier) than stripping one garment at a time, so I’d want to arrive on stage naked.
- For the game, the stripping would be part of the game, even if the forfeit was to strip (or be stripped) very quickly. it would be very embarrassing but that would be a big part of the fun, so I’d want to undress on the stage. A compromise would be to go behind a curtain each time and come out wearing one less article of clothing.
- For playing a character in a play, I’d do whatever the character needed to do.
Thinking of going behind a curtain to strip, there used to be a TV programme in the UK called The Hitman and Her, with Pete Waterman and Michaela Strachan hosting evenings in nightclubs. It was mainly about giving a media outlet for Acid House music, but it included a “clothes swap” game where two pairs of blindfolded competitors went behind a sheet to race to swap all (or normally just most) of their clothes with their partner. The sheet was taken away when the time ran out, even if any of the competitors was still a bit exposed. There was a light behind them so their shadows were back-projected onto the sheet while they tried to quickly strip naked and get dressed again. Occasionally Pete and Michaela would very briefly lower the sheet to try to catch the women competitors topless. Those were the days!

I think my problem is not knowing how the other person/people works react. So if it’s a prepared event where the audience expect to see someone naked then I think I’d be OK with either.

There are episodes of fear factor on YouTube, the American and Dutch ones from memory, where the fear of public nudity is addressed and they have to parade up and down a catwalk naked with an audience cheering and taking pictures. From memory one of the Dutch ladies was fine with it but the other looked extremely embarrassed, the American ones they didn’t seem bothered at all.

I had a brief video of a Dutch one (I think, it was a while ago) but I’ve never seen video of the American one. I’m guessing the US one was censored before it was broadcast?
Pity it wasn’t a recurring feature on the show.

Sometimes I stand at nude drawing courses model. Usually there is a separate room where you can undress beforehand. With one class, however, this is there not possible and you undress in front of the artists. In the end, for me it doesn’t matter, because you’re end up naked in front of the class either way.

I should have put more options in that survey because people clearly have different reasons for preferring the different options.

That vote came out much more even than I expected. I’ll leave it open for now, just in case any more community members wish to vote.

For me just coming out naked, I’m not sure that’s enough. I like the idea of stripping for the audience.
I’m not sure I’m really that bothered either way but I definitely think there is more of a thing for me to strip in front of them.
If you are already naked then once you’ve stepped out in front then the initial moment of I’m naked is over very quickly.
Having to strip in front of them, the act of getting naked for people is one of the things that makes it for me. Starting dressed and slowly taking off clothes to reveal everything it feels like more of a connection to each person in the audience. Like you can see them and look at them as you strip making it more about you and them like your getting naked for them more than just getting naked to go on stage.

Looks like Undress-on-stage is winning now, but not by much.

It’s not as simple a question as it first appears…
