How embarrassed are you to be naked in front of others?

If they are naked, I’m only slightly self conscious. If I’m the only, it makes me extremely self conscious.

I went to a gym for a while a couple of years ago with a school-type changing room – just a space for getting naked and a space for getting showered. I had very mixed feelings about it. I don’t mind being seen naked when I’m in the mood for it, but I was never really comfortable there and stopped going in the end. One guy always wore a minimal swimming costume – I can see why he did that, but it looked even odder than being completely naked. I don’t know why I didn’t like it. I think I just couldn’t be bothered with it when I wasn’t in the mood for it. It would probably have been the same if it was mixed-gender. I started going to the gym because a female friend wanted someone to go with and I caved in. I suspect that if it was a mixed changing room we would just have got on with it and not talked about it!!

I wonder how many people won’t go to a gym because of lack of privacy in the changing facilities.

I’m sure it puts people off at school.

I think every other gym I went to (when I was in the habit of going) had at least a couple of cubicles for changing but this one was very spartan in that way. Strangely, if someone was daring people to walk across the room naked, I’d have been first in the queue, but just being naked as a necessary part of the process wasn’t appealing in the slightest.
