Avatar pictures

Can I encourage everyone AGAIN to upload something as an avatar picture for yourself. If doesn’t have to be a photo of you but the blank avatar picture is useless for differentiating between members.

Just remember to comply with the simple rules.

Has anyone at all added an avatar picture to their profile since I started this thread?

I’ve just changed mine very slightly. It’s the same image cropped differently. I still think it’s the best photo I’ve ever seen. (Or, ok, maybe one of the best few dozen!)

Would it work if supporters were given access to impose profile pictures on active users who didn’t have one after a few weeks in the community? Hopefully supporters would pick something pleasant and appropriate but, if not, at least it would give the Faceless Ones an incentive to provide their own.

It must be tempting to delete users who haven’t posted anything and haven’t added a profile picture.

I do often delete users who haven’t visited the site in 6 months (especially if they’ve never posted etc.).

It would be nice if I could let supporters do that, but the controls don’t allow such precision. Anyone I give that level of control could also change supporter status, rename the site, edit the colour-scheme and background, delete forums/users, post full HTML and change the contents of the right column.

No, a good idea, just doesn’t fit with the permissions engine in BBpress. There may be a plugin to fix that, but I’ll have to do some research.

Sorry, man. Didn’t know what to put as a pic, cause I’m not quite ready to post a personal pic yet. Hope a drawing I did recently is good enough, otherwise I can try to crop an image of as close to naked as I’m comfortable to not show my face.

That’s fine. The pictures don’t have to be of you at all. It’s just quicker and easier to follow conversations and identify replies if we all have a unique icon. About 2/3rds of members just have the default one and it tends to make everyone look the same – not very friendly. Your drawing is perfect for the job.

Of course mine is me, and taken from a released feature film! There’s a challenge for people (although I am sure I have mentioned here so searching this site may be cheating!)….

I’m jealous of ANY hair.

I loved the Prof’s idea of posting the uncropped avatar image. I was about to do that with my old avatar until I realized I was a bit too much of an outstanding member in the uncropped photo. So, new avatar, new mood.  Here is the uncropped version of what I’m using now.  If you absolutely must see the uncropped image from the old avatar, feel free to PM.

I couldn’t crop the picture as I wanted, plus the completely nude (but discreet) background picture didn’t work – and I only had a brief 20-minute window to take the selfies as the house was briefly (and rarely!) empty! ?

Have you tried a screenshot?  You can control the crop that way.
